/ WHITE

ANJA LOUISE VERDUGO
I sell vintage clothing online and have a journal where I share my photos & finds here: www.clevernettle.com/blog (based in Portland, Oregon)

This outfit all began with the most special shoes I can imagine- black & white satin cat print flats from MIU MIU’s spring 2010 collection. I’m almost embarrassed to have these shoes, owning a designer item is so foreign to me. This is my first time wearing them, and I’m nervous! In a way they seem almost too precious and fancy to wear, but before I bought them I visualized the little cats many years from now… worn, scuffed, and loved, just as they should be. I’m wearing them with little black silk tap shorts from the FLETCHER BY LYELL collection that was sold at Urban Outfitters, vintage-inspired and featherlight. The blouse is vintage 1960’s white lace, perfectly fitted with sheer sleeves, a gift from a friend in Maine. I’m all black and white, a little silent movie apparition from the future. Ok, not quite- my lips are a bright crimson red. I’m also wearing a dab of single note rose perfume made by TOKYO MILK (Scarlett 57). Portland is known as the Rose City and this year I am more obsessed with roses than ever. I hope a bee doesn’t chase me!

I’m wearing this 7/31/10 at sunset for a nice drink & evening walk, maybe to take some pictures with my 70’s SLR since the light is so good at night these days. I’m not exactly sure where the evening will take me yet!

I’m wearing a bluish grey CALVIN KLEIN chambray pencil skirt with pintuck details at waist and slit side pockets, a white AKIABARA cotton shirt and a blue CALVIN KLEIN wool v-neck sweater. Variegated blue and grey SILVANA cotton/wool tights with classic and simple white REEBOK Princess leather aerobic shoes. Hand knitted fingerless gloves in grey merino wool. Long black ZARA padded jacket. As a handbag I’m using a REISENTHEL mini maxi shopper bag in sand. No jewellery. No nail polish. A basic Nokia cell phone in my pocket. Chance by CHANEL.

A cold 8˚C Friday 23th July in Santiago, Chile.

I’m a fashion illustrator and sometimes photographer. I’m watching fashion tv in my lounge room and looking outside my window to see if the weather is good enough to go out today. I’m situated in Paris, France.

I am wearing PLEASURE STATE lingerie couture range, a pair of black raw denim skinny jean CHEAP MONDAY jeans, plain white t-shirt, a HUGO BOSS baby blue collared shirt over the white shirt, 2 year old canvas shoes I bought from TARGET that only cost $10. YSL Parisienne.

INGRID WESTERGAARD

It started raining late last night, a mere drizzle; though already, cold water droplets have condensed on the window pane in my bedroom. I sit cross legged on the soft once-white yet now faded cream carpet; wearing a slightly overlarge pale pink blouse from a neighborhood thrift store. My hair, as it is, has air dried, quickly becoming brittle from last night’s shower and ever the more tangled than usual; a complicated mess that my brush will do nothing for. I have no makeup on and it’s very late at night. The rain has stopped now, and all I see as I gaze out the window; absently drinking hot tea; is inky darkness. There are no stars tonight, and when I unfold my legs from my pretzel like position, my white shorts from the brand LONELY HEARTS catches the dim light from the lamp on my desk, illuminating eerily. It’s an ordinary night, as usual, but something stops me this time from dismissing it casually from my mind. Every night is special.

I slept with damp hair last night, which has left it a little scraggly and mis-shapen, wavy strands fall messily on my face. I’m due for a trim and I’ve been eyeing the local hair dresser I pass by every morning. 11 euro for all lengths. I have on a basic V neck t-shirt from SES, a chain store based in Australia. I packed it as one of my basics, assuming it would be worn frequently. On closer inspection there are slight streaks of blue stains, the inevitable result of mixing whites with your colours. The weather is warm enough to wear an old pair of mineral wash AMERICAN APPAREL natural denim runner shorts – in cornflower blue. But since the cool breeze from last night’s first summer storm still lingers, I’ve put on my wooly winter reindeer boots, bought from Big W. Around my neck is a gold necklace with a crucifix pendant – a present my mother gave me before I left home. Every time we speak on skype she comments on how lovely it looks. She insists I never take it off, and I never have.

RHIANNON LEIFHEIT
I live in Atlanta, Georgia and blog (http://www.liebemarlene.blogspot.com) and sell vintage clothing on Ebay for a living, so I’m in thrift stores all the time and only really dress up on weekends. Otherwise it’s always ’90s dresses and brown leather fringed loafers.

I’m wearing a navy blue 1950s dirndl sun dress with a tiny little floral dot print. I haven’t really been into ’50s things lately but this dress is simple and looks more casual without a blouse underneath so I like it. It has a really fitted waist and full skirt and little silver metal buttons that go all the way to the neck, and I usually button things all the way to the top. I have on brown leather SWEDISH HASBEEN sandals to make the outfit look more ’70s than ’50s, and I’m carrying a navy and white striped canvas tote bag from H&M. I have pale blue nails and a big (fake!) turquoise costume ring on my finger, and when I go outside I’ll put on my tortoise cat eye sunglasses from KAREN WALKER even though they always give me sunglasses crease on the nose.

Saturday, June 5th at noon: I’m about to take a day trip to Milledgeville, Georgia to see where Flannery O’Connor lived.

My “Turnip Trousers” from my A/W 2009 collection: Oxford-Bags style made from beige cotton drill, high waisted with horn buttons. Teamed up with grey army braces I bought from Squadron HQ on Kentish Town High Street. A white vintage shirt with a point placket and bib, bought for £15 (haggled from £25) from Spitalfields Market. My Dad’s red polka-dot neckerchief, that he begrudgingly gave to me, tied in a jaunty fashion around my neck. Two silver arm bands, from John Lewis, on my shirt sleeves. Complimented beautifully with a pair of CHARLES JOURDAN brown-and-white correspondent shoes that a good friend of mine gave me because they were too small for him (he found them in a charity shop in the Isle of Man). As for cologne, I ALWAYS wear DIOR’s Suavage.

I’m wearing this in Soho, outside the French house on Dean Street, enjoying a bottle of French cider.

INGRID KESA
From my one bedroom apartment, in Sydney, Australia, I string together nonsensical words and biased opinions (mostly when drunk) and publish them via my fashion blog www.latershaters.com. When I’m sober (or, rather, not as drunk), I ride my bike, work as a freelance fashion, art and music journalist and sometimes go to uni.

Right now I am wearing an AMERICAN APPAREL black spandex onesie, which actually has a rip in the crotch from way too much Kate Bush ‘Wuthering Heights’ dancing. Over the top of this I am wearing a long-sleeved velvet body-con dress with a black and white lace pattern that I got for $8 from this amazing thrift store called Tempe Tip. The shoes I am wearing, which are black and suede and a heavenly mix between brogues and sneakers, are also from Tempe Tip and were around the same price. They are super comfy. Because it is getting cold in Sydney, I am also wearing a TOMMY HILFIGER beige trench coat, which was a gift from a friend because hells no can I afford that shit. It has a really colourful Pucci print-style lining, which I really like considering how plain the rest of the coat is. When I take it off it’s all “Pow!” and everyone is surprised. It’s like a party trick. I am also wearing a black jersey scarf made entirely of tassels. It looks like what I imagine Whoopi Goldberg’s pubic hair to look like, which is somewhat disturbing. It was from a chain store here called General Pants and was by their in-house brand AGENT 99 that I got sometime last year. I am also wearing a huge ROMANCE WAS BORN constellation print tote bag, which, if you look at with squinted eyes, actually looks like a galaxy. I am obsessed with this bag and would marry it if I could. It’s from their current collection, I think. I am also wearing white gloves from Japan with neon pink love hearts on them and “I love you” written in a different language on every finger. It’s hard to type in them but it’s ok because they’re super kitsch. If I took the gloves off, you would be able to see that I am also wearing a MARC JACOBS watch. It has a patent black wristband and a big black face. I wear this all the time so it smells kinda bad. To disguise this smell, I am wearing a squirt of MARC JACOBS Daisy perfume, but only a squirt because the bottle is almost empty.

I am dressed like this to go outside and see where the night takes me.

TAO LIN
I write, draw, write emails, drink smoothies, eat fruit, look at the internet, do things to my blog (http://heheheheheheheeheheheehehe.com/), listen to music in my room, Tweet, “hang out,” walk around in sunlight in Manhattan, make “shitty-ass” songs on garageband.
I live in Williamsburg off the Graham L train stop.

I’m wearing a black Choking Victim hoodie with a white image of a woman choking a baby, I think, on the back. It is size small. The brand is GILDAN. I think I got it from Leftover Crack’s website or eBay or maybe a Leftover Crack show like five years ago. I’m wearing black IPATH shoes I think I got off Amazon discounted to something like $25 a few months ago. I’m wearing black socks from I think OLD NAVY. I’m wearing a “shitty-ass” “two-pronged” belt from OLD NAVY. I’m wearing plaid boxer shorts that are probably from GAP. I’m wearing a green-and-black long-sleeved plaid shirt from GRANIPH that I got in Taipei, Taiwan two years ago. I’m wearing dark blue corduroy pants my old roommate gave me around a year ago.
