KELLY LYNN WATERS

I’m a designer/architect, sometime illustrator, and blogger of halcyon days (http://kellylynnwaters.blogspot.com)

Well, seeing that it’s a typical San Francisco summer day, cold and foggy, I went looking for something to brighten up my day so I pulled out a favorite vintage silk dress. The print on the dress is reminiscent of some art nouveau pattern and the colors are a really lovely combination of deep peacock green, a light plum, rust, and black and beige. The tag says RUE DE SOIE (silk road I gather) but the style reminds me of Ossie Clark or Biba. I cinch it with a black and gold leather belt by HYDE and pair it with plum tights and dark brown boots from PAOLO. In my ears are black pearl earrings given to me by my Mister for our first anniversary. Around my neck is a cast gold wishbone necklace by LAURIE BROWN also given to me by the Mister (he gives great gifts no?) and a longer gold necklace made from three different types of chain I acquired at Rare Device. And on my finger my wedding/engagement band, wide and heavy with a pavé surface by CHRISTOPHER ROULE. The hair is long and dark with bangs but I’ve been itching for a lovely chopped do a la Tao Okamoto. A spritz of the classic PRADA and one more layer before I leave, a classic vintage trench, given to me by my Aunt, given to her by my Grandma, and black leather riding gloves by AGENT PROVOCATEUR (another gift from the mister), a quick grab of my vintage Coach speedy, hop on the bike and off I go.

July 6, 2010  San Francisco CA. Just a day at the office.

RHIANNON LEIFHEIT
I live in Atlanta, Georgia and blog (http://www.liebemarlene.blogspot.com) and sell vintage clothing on Ebay for a living, so I’m in thrift stores all the time and only really dress up on weekends. Otherwise it’s always ’90s dresses and brown leather fringed loafers.

I’m wearing a navy blue 1950s dirndl sun dress with a tiny little floral dot print. I haven’t really been into ’50s things lately but this dress is simple and looks more casual without a blouse underneath so I like it. It has a really fitted waist and full skirt and little silver metal buttons that go all the way to the neck, and I usually button things all the way to the top. I have on brown leather SWEDISH HASBEEN sandals to make the outfit look more ’70s than ’50s, and I’m carrying a navy and white striped canvas tote bag from H&M. I have pale blue nails and a big (fake!) turquoise costume ring on my finger, and when I go outside I’ll put on my tortoise cat eye sunglasses from KAREN WALKER even though they always give me sunglasses crease on the nose.

Saturday, June 5th at noon: I’m about to take a day trip to Milledgeville, Georgia to see where Flannery O’Connor lived.

My “Turnip Trousers” from my A/W 2009 collection: Oxford-Bags style made from beige cotton drill, high waisted with horn buttons. Teamed up with grey army braces I bought from Squadron HQ on Kentish Town High Street. A white vintage shirt with a point placket and bib, bought for £15 (haggled from £25) from Spitalfields Market. My Dad’s red polka-dot neckerchief, that he begrudgingly gave to me, tied in a jaunty fashion around my neck. Two silver arm bands, from John Lewis, on my shirt sleeves. Complimented beautifully with a pair of CHARLES JOURDAN brown-and-white correspondent shoes that a good friend of mine gave me because they were too small for him (he found them in a charity shop in the Isle of Man). As for cologne, I ALWAYS wear DIOR’s Suavage.

I’m wearing this in Soho, outside the French house on Dean Street, enjoying a bottle of French cider.

I always wear my perspex 50’s cats eye glasses from OPERA OPERA. They’re falling apart a bit now, but I’m pretty blind so I couldn’t do without them. Today I’m also wearing a high-waisted denim skirt that was ankle length, and kind of amazing like that but i chopped it to knee length – originally from BHS but bought from a charity shop in Stroud last week. A black t-shirt with white horses running across from a thrift shop in Houston, Texas. High-waisted leggings from AMERICAN APPAREL which have a huge hole in them half way down the right leg that I’ve been meaning to sew up for almost a year. Grey socks from M&S, my favourite brown sandals i bought at a charity shop in Brighton. A teddy girl style camel jacket from a charity shop in Surbiton, originally M&S, and a yellow desert backpack i bought on the same day from an army surplus near by. I can’t take it off at the moment, everyone should have a good backpack. Perfume: Coco Madamoiselle. I also always wear a small gold hoop in my left ear (my friend in Manchester has the other) and a heart shaped locket that my sister gave me for my 18th birthday – there’s room for 4 pictures, but im still looking for people with small enough heads.

Two-tone brown striped tank top from H&M tucked into my jeans and a T by ALEXANDER WANG black short-sleeve tee with welt pocket tucked just in the front (I always let the back hang out). The tee is kind of sheer so you can see the stripes from the tank top underneath. My current favorite jeans are ACNE Hug fit, which are low rise, acid wash and are perfectly slouchy at the top and narrow at the leg. The shoes are green moccasins with a ribbon bow by CHLOE. They are the softest leather ever and were a Christmas present from my mom in 2006. We had seen them at a store the year before but they were too expensive and when we went back a year later, they were deeply discounted. It was meant to be. I rarely wear them because they are just so delicate.

I wear the same accessories everyday, A GILES & BROTHER silver stud earring that looks like the top of a screw and a gold and black CHANEL shoe and logo dangling earring that my mom got me in Paris on my left ear and a GILES & BROTHER crazy metallic cluster stud on my right ear. On my neck are two chains, one is a gold TIFFANY key that my mom gave me on my 25th birthday and a vintage gold spider charm with a tiny turquoise body that used to belong to my grandma and she gave to me a few years ago. I still wear my class ring on my right ring finger which is kinda nerdy, but whatever, I got used to it so now I just can’t take it off. I wear two rings on my middle finger on my left hand, a bear one by PAMELA LOVE and an eagle head by ANNA SHEFFIELD. My current sunglasses are black flat-top frames by RETROSUPERFUTURE.

I wore this yesterday on my first beautiful-spring day while I ran some errands in the city.

Today, since it’s a little warmer than usual, I’ve made the switch from full on winter layers and all that to something a bit more chilled out. I’ve got one of those work-shirt numbers on, but it’s engineers striped, from LEVIS. POLO Rugby chinos in a lighter-than-usual khaki, and a pair of POLO cookie boots. Some say their kind of corny, but I like them and they’re not three-full-bills expensive. Outwear-wise, a vintage ORVIS brown and green navajo print fleece shirt jacket. Probably one of my favorite vintage finds. Oh and some VALENTINO sunglasses, clubmaster frames.

I’m at my desk, but about to head outside and enjoy the sunshine.

On my legs I wear a year old pair of NUDIE  jeans (Thin Finn) covering my Swedish paleness, yet to be washed, socks from H&M, underwear from H&M, white textile shoes from H&M that are no longer white, they are more of a brown, grey, black, off white kind of colour because of all the amazing people and places I have seen and met when wearing them, an oversized JC t-Shirt in dark navy blue, a cardigan in white, grey, with blue inner linings that see through the white and grey and looks like its blue but not, it also has beautiful buttons in light brown wood, from a shop in New York on Mercer street called Operations given to me by my girlfriend, the bag around my shoulder is from TED BAKER and is made from thick brown leather and has beautiful cotton lining, I am also carrying a coin purse in dark blue leather by PACK SADDLE LEATHER CO. bought in their factory in Byron Bay, helping me see on a sunny day is a pair of CALVIN KLEIN sunglasses, I smell like someone wearing HUGO BOSS Light Blue.

It is another day in my work pen. I am wearing black LEVI 501’s, a black three prong belt, cotton ocher socks, black Born slip-ons, a vintage orange cotton-poly long-sleeved shirt, a self-made corduroy vest in Kelly green, sage green, khaki green and dark brown stripes, and a wide tie foraged from Goodwill. My vest is lined with a cotton topographical print in greens and blues, and the tie is a BARINI Original in greens and oranges with pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge, and accented with orange diagonal stripes. It is unseasonable chilly, so when I brave the city for lunch I throw on a severely beaten-up black leather jacket made by SCHOTT that my lover gave me, a 5’ long self-knit wool ocher scarf, and a brown plaid wool Italian cap made by BAILEY of Hollywood.

I looked like this from the top down: brown lambswool cardigan with elbow patches from FILIPPA K, which I just bought while out Christmas shopping, blue polo shirt with white pin stripes from H&M years ago, which has a discolouring on the back of the neck from hair bleach, vintage brown velvet skirt, which I just hemmed shorter this weekend because the length of it put me off it for a few years (there is a badge on this skirt, it is Johnny Cash giving you the finger, you know which one), grey wool tights that my mother sent me last year for Christmas when I was in China by myself and freezing, because there was no heat in my appartment. I also wore black JUSTIN Lace-R boots all day at work, a black Marc by MARC JACOBS wool coat to keep me from freezing to death on my bike ride there and back with a black wool scarf. I smelled like Flora by GUCCI.

This was December 9th, 2009.
