ANNA MIRIAM ETHEL PARKMAN
I’m a 19-year old countrygirl nowadays living in Stockholm. I work in a swedish kids clothing store half of the time, and on the other half I work with my interests such as baking, sewing and photographing through my vintageblog, http://www.miriamskafferep.blogspot.com. I dream of becoming a pastry chef and I also dance Lindy Hop and Balboa, sometimes wishing I was born 80 years ago.

Today, on the afternoon of july 24th, I’m wearing a 50’s summerdress, with the perfect tiny waistmeasure I very rarely find. It’s cream white in a heavy, dull kind of silk, with raspberry red stripes, mixed thin and thicker ones. It has a square boatneck with short sleeves, typical 50s style, with one big, red stripe following the neck, and then thin ones down to the skirt. Around the waist there’s a thin, red belt, with a buckle of mother-of-pearl-shimmering seashell. The skirt is over-the-knee-length and pleated all around. Together with the fabric’s heaviness its’ swing’s lovely around my legs when I walk and dance! The tag inside the dress says “Suprex Models” but I don’t know from which country it’s originally from. I bought in Stockholm’s best vintage store: Old Touch at Upplandsgatan for 450 SEK (approx. 61 USD).

On my feet I’m wearing a pair of 50’s reproduction wedge sandals from british ROCKET ORIGINALS, with peeptoe and anklestraps crossed back and buckled in front. The wedge is bright raspberry red with a following cream white stripe, and over the toes the sides cross over to an atomic shaped “V”, marked with a another cream white stripe.

I wear my blonde hair in a low, curly ponytail with pinned up sides and my bangs in a big, in-rolled curl, pinned with two green and golden dragonflies. Like a mix of Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe in their more casual moments. I wear a light perfume with lily of the valley-scent from british PENHALIGON, bright red lipstick, light foundation and rose pink blush. When outside I wear a pair of green and yellow cateye-shades, also bought at Old Touch, and a little 50’s handbag in beige and white, bought on a block fleamarket.

The time is 17.47, on a sunny, lazy day in my hometown Härnösand, north of Sweden.

It started raining late last night, a mere drizzle; though already, cold water droplets have condensed on the window pane in my bedroom. I sit cross legged on the soft once-white yet now faded cream carpet; wearing a slightly overlarge pale pink blouse from a neighborhood thrift store. My hair, as it is, has air dried, quickly becoming brittle from last night’s shower and ever the more tangled than usual; a complicated mess that my brush will do nothing for. I have no makeup on and it’s very late at night. The rain has stopped now, and all I see as I gaze out the window; absently drinking hot tea; is inky darkness. There are no stars tonight, and when I unfold my legs from my pretzel like position, my white shorts from the brand LONELY HEARTS catches the dim light from the lamp on my desk, illuminating eerily. It’s an ordinary night, as usual, but something stops me this time from dismissing it casually from my mind. Every night is special.

I make a zine in my bedroom called BFR. It’s all hand drawn and then photocopied in the school library. Most of my time is spent on London public transport, getting home from lame house parties in zone 6 or just rifling around.

I am wearing low NIKE dunks that I got when I was 12 years old, they are very pink and grubby having served me six years of physical education and some little socks that I took from my Mum’s draw this morning. I’m also wearing some greenish coloured drainpipes back from when I used to think nu rave was like the best thing everrr. Oddly clothes from when I was 13 still fit me. Then I’m wearing a standard AMERICAN APPAREL tri-blend male tank with a blue, red and green UNIQLO (again from the mens section) tartan shirt on top. Over that I’ve stolen my Dad’s MARKS & SPENCER cardigan, its super big and soft and navy. My mum bought it for him when we were at the seaside because he was cold, but he didn’t like the plastic buttons, so she has sewn on some rather dashing cork ones as a replacement. Unfortunately the moths are getting to it. My hair is an utter state as usual, but it’s down today because I went to a ball last night and pretty much rolled out of bed and into the library (for revision) and I couldn’t be bothered to sort it out because it’s rainy today. On my face, I have both my lobes pierced which are adorned with VIVIENNE WESTWOOD orb earrings and I have my cartilage pierced on the top of my right ear which has a ring in it. Because I am rather blind, I am wearing orange glasses and shit loads of eyeliner. I also have by MARC by MARC JACOBS school bag with me, it is oil cloth and has lots of funny drawings on it like a banana eating itself and a huge zip and a MARC JACOBS bone bangle (on my left wrist) and a TIMEX watch (on my right wrist).

MAX OLIJNYK
I work as an editor, a writer and a fashion designer.

I am wearing a navy RITTENHOUSE sweater, made of nice unbrushed fleece. It has a little pocket on the breast lined with gingham, that I hardly ever use but I really like, mainly because it looks like a picture of a mouth. Under that, I’m wearing a t-shirt by UNDERCOVER, it’s a funny shade of pink and the print is advertising a jazz festival, which I think may be fictional, but I’m not sure. I had lusted after it for years and finally got it from the last Someday sale. Then of course I’m wearing NOTE TO SELF jeans, black overdyed stretch ones, size 34. I want to make some new ones, but I need some money to buy materials. For now, these are very comfortable – I have two pairs of the same ones and rotate them on a daily basis.

I wish I was wearing ‘old man’ slippers, but I’m not, because I don’t own a pair – yet. Instead, I’m wearing my girlfriend Rosie’s black explorer socks to keep warm. My dog is asleep on my lap, the time is 6:27pm on Thursday 20th May 2010, and I’m at home in North Fitzroy, Victoria, Australia.

From head to toe: A light splash of Bumble & Bumble ’straight’ potion for my unruly locks. A dash of DIOR homme aftershave. Thin cotton vintage blossom style print shirt by PAUL AND JOE, with cream landscape, blue tree trunks and pink blossom, from Selfridges London. Pure lambswool Cardigan by PETER JENSEN in wine color. Round neck cut with no fastenings on front, bought from sample sale at Peter’s studio. Vintage CASIO gold calculator watch. Slim fit dark denim jeans by UNIQLO with 1inch turn up. Perfect fit for my overly long legs and slim waist. All underwear by AMERICAN APPAREL in maroon bought from the LA flagship store in down town LA whilst on vacation last autumn. Vintage Chelsea boots bought from a flea market in Paris. Slightly scuffed and worn leather just as I like them.

I live very far away from most of my family and friends, so wearing
clothing with specific associations is a way of feeling closer to
them.

A black, knee-length GHOST dress (one of many hand-me-downs from my
older sisters) under a black Victorian-style leather jacket by
FIRETRAP (a gift from my best friend). A cream feathered goat’s hair
scarf—beautifully, loosely knit by HIV-positive women in South Africa
(given to me by my mother). A pale pink cameo brooch of my mother’s
nestled in the scarf. Black tights. Slouchy bright copper RAS boots,
another present from my mom—we picked them out at half price during
the post-Christmas sales in Paris five years ago. A small woven clutch
from a market in northern Thailand. And, to hold my camera and
umbrella, a large basket belonging to my roommate Katrin (handmade by
Sophie, one of her family’s long-time employees in Botswana).

Monday, May 10, 2010. Taking pictures for Bluestockings in Stellenbosch.

Today I’m wearing a raw denim (very tight) jeans by A.P.C., a khaki silk dress by ACNE, pink socks by H&M (no shoes; I’m at home), black second-skin underwear by H&M and a cream scarf by STARSTYLING (collection Die Kunst). As piece of jewelry, I only wear my 2 small flesh tunnels and my tattoos. Recently it has been very cold and slippery in Basel, so I can’t go outside without wearing my red coat bought at ASOS and my high-gloss black DR. MARTIN boots.

The unusual cold Swedish winter is nothing for me, so I stay inside, playing dress up. Today I wear a dust pink, see through, lace shirt I bought at TOPSHOP. I like to button the collar all the way up. The black tights I’m wearing are also from TOPSHOP and a little bit transparent, with big pink hearts to match up the dress. The low vintage shoes I’m wearing are inspired by the Kooks, in black leather and with a wide elastic band instead of shoe laces for a perfect fit. On my head I’m wearing a black, vintage bowler hat and around my neck I’m wearing two heavy golden collar necklaces. My perfume is a scent I’m very fond of, its called Cinnamon Bun and the label is THE LIBRARY OF FRAGRANCE. If I want to go outside, despite the cold, I will carry my stuff in a white tote which I have been carrying for years. It is a bit torn but it only makes it more charming. In the tote a tapetsered vintage wallet, my black moleskine sketchbook and my iPhone.

December 21th, Sweden, 8 a.m. Off to bed.

Tonight i am wearing two singlets because it suddenly got cold again but I’m not ready for a jacket. The underneath one is black and the one on top is bright neon orange. I’m wearing a badge I made myself that is made of sparkly stickers that says ‘faggette’. Around my neck I’m wearing my new favorite neon kerchief, something like an Andy Warhol print, it has a green background with purple, pink, orange and yellow fruit. Im wearing a high waisted body hugging purple and blue leopard print skirt. On my legs I have a pastel purple pair of stockings that I bought when I was living in Japan, with vivid purple fishnets over the top. On my feet I have 90’s style space boots (because i like to be tall but tonight I’m not wearing heels) with black calf length leg warmers over the top. On my left arm is seventeen bracelets in pink, purple and silver and on my right fourteen clear, silver, green and blue bracelets. Above my cupid’s bow I have spirit gummed a tiny jewel. My ears are stretched up big now with new pastel pink tunnels my friend, and local piercer, gave to me. My eyes are all dusty and sparkley with BEN NYE sunset colors and gold i.d. BARE MINERALS makeup. The hair wax I got in Japan, that I’m wearing tonight, makes me smell like sherbet.
