ELISABETH KOCH
I am a milliner. www.elisabethkoch.net

Sitting in my atelier here in Beijing, I am wearing a black skirt that closes with green velcro. It has no label but my sister got it at URBAN OUTFITTERS in London like 10 years ago (!). My top is of jersey cotton, sleeveless, slash-neck type with very wide red & black horizontal stripes (3 red and 2 black). The straps can be tightened with cords (of the same striped material) and tied in a bow – or not, you could leave them hanging too. Both of mine are in bows. The label inside says “BDg registered trademark EST. 76″. This top is also a hand-me-down from my big sister who works in fashion in NY.

On my head, I am wearing a hat of my own label: Elisabeth Koch Millinery. Often while I’m working on a piece, I’ll stick it on my head just to get the feel of it. I make each of my unique creations by hand. It is made of triangular pieces of light silver sinamay with a poof of hand-cut white feathers in the middle. It’s a commissioned piece for a client. Other than these three things, I have no shoes on, no jewelry, but yes to a little mascara (MAYBELLINE from the USA) and eyebrow pencil (DIOR from Amsterdam).

Today is a wonderful July 14th 2010 at 4pm.

An old washed-out solid blue t-shirt from URBAN OUTFITTERS. Dark G-STAR ‘3301,’ slim fit jeans. A worn-out double-sided belt from EXPRESS (black side facing out). A NOOKA Zon watch which has a large off-center face and a black leather band. Boxers from CALVIN KLEIN. Argyle socks from UNIQLO. On my feet, NIKE 6.0 Mavrk hi-tops in black with white laces. A black zip sweater/jacket with pockets reminiscent of a military jacket from BANANA REPUBLIC. Black pea coat from TOMMY HILFIGER with a polka dot inner lining. Grey/Black/White patterned scarf. Overall, a relatively dark ensemble.

Writer & tea sommelier from Melbourne, Australia.

My outfit is a study in black and smudges of grey, exploring exaggerated proportions. I am wearing a black silk tunic from Australian label THE DOLL’S BOUTIQUE. It is loose and flowing, and its hem falls lower at the back than at the front, something I find very elegant. I am wearing a pair of charcoal grey jeans from URBAN OUTFITTERS, which I purchased on a recent trip to New York City. My shoes are by RICK OWENS – black leather ankle boots with a platform wedge & a chunky silver zip. Worn with such slim-fitting jeans, they lengthen the legs to stilt-like proportions. I am wearing three sterling silver rings: a STOLEN GIRLFRIEND’S CLUB Bow Tie ring, pyramid stud ring by WENDY NICHOL, and a ring with la folie a deux engraved on the inside, a Valentine’s gift from an ex-girlfriend. Around my neck is a PERKS & MINI vampire fang necklace in oxidised silver, as well as the subtlest hint of CHANEL No. 5.
